Sinclair Broadcasting is leveraging local TV content to differentiate its new free-ad-supported service STIRR. With plenty of other providers delivering quality content free-ad-supported, STIRR has lots of competition. Luckily, the market is finally ready to explode.

Chapter 1: Sinclair launches free-ad-supported STIRR (0:32)

Sinclair will leverage its 190+ TV stations to populate STIRR with plenty of local content. It launches with 20 channels, growing to 50 by year’s end.

Chapter 2: Amazon, Pluto TV, Wurl, and others compete (2:16)

The number of free-ad-supported services is expanding rapidly. Pluto TV, Wurl, and Xumo are delivering linear channels to connected TVs. The Roku Channel and Amazon’s IMDb Freedive are delivering with an AVOD model. Providers like VRV and Sling TV are delivering a mix of free and subscription content.

With people spending a lot more time watching online, they are sure to discover new online video services. With subscription and sign-up to services like STIRR, there is no barrier to trying them. There are also signs consumers are finally ready to look beyond SVOD services to augment their entertainment experience.
